History of gaming: An evolving community

Introduction:

The gaming industry has come a long way since the first video game was created in the 1950s. From the earliest games played on mainframe computers to the latest virtual reality experiences, gaming has become a mainstream form of entertainment. However, the history of gaming is not just about the technology or the games themselves, it's also about the community that has formed around them. In this blog post, we will explore the history of gaming and how it has evolved over time, becoming a global phenomenon that connects people from all walks of life.

The Early days of gaming:

The earliest video games were created in the 1950s and 1960s on mainframe computers. These games were mostly text-based and were played by programmers and computer scientists. It wasn't until the 1970s that the first arcade games were created, which allowed people to play games in public places like arcades and bars. In the early 1980s, home consoles like the Atari 2600 and the Intellivision were introduced. These consoles brought gaming into people's homes and created a new community of gamers. People could now play games with their friends and family in the comfort of their own homes. Because people played games back then with their families as well as their friends and there was healthy competition, this time period of gaming was something special.

The rise of PC gaming and mobile gaming :

In the mid-1980s, PC gaming emerged as a new form of gaming. PC games were more sophisticated than console games and offered more complex gameplay. This allowed the formation of a new community of gamers and gaming became more affordable and readily available too. Mobile phones did not lack behind at all. Mobile games became very popular in the year 2015 when games like Angry birds, Clash of Clans, Talking Tom peaked in number of users worldwide. It was handy and very affordable. It quickly became the best way to kill some time.

Online Gaming Era:

What exactly is an online game? Well, it is the complete opposite of traditional or offline gaming. In offline games, only one user is in control of how the game will proceed. And it has a beginning and an end, whereas, in online games there is no end. It is an endless journey of getting better in a specific game. In the early 2010s, after the release of online games like Counter Strike and Call of Duty, gaming took a significant turn. Several young people were obsessed with online gaming. In online games, you play with or against real life players. Some games support text and voice chat which makes it more interactive as you can communicate with your teammates for better synergy. Online games often do not have any ending, it is an endless journey to get better at that specific game. Online games are more competitive as they do not have any difficulty mode like the offline games and you are up against real life players just like you.

The E-sports Period:

The number of gamers worldwide drastically grew between 2014 and 2018. There was a hunt for the best of the best players in the world, especially in online games. People started taking gaming more seriously, which ultimately led to the formation of national and international gaming competitions. The term "E-sports" refers to this type of competition in which a group of gamers are sponsored and controlled by major corporations with the primary objective of taking home a national or international title. E-sports have peaked in recent years. It has grown more than ever. Nowadays, playing video games is more than just for entertainment; many people now work in the industry, and not only as players. Many people, including content creators, the development team, tournament hosts, and the coach, work behind the scenes.

Conclusion:

In a very short period of time, gaming has seen a significant evolution. Over the years, everything from platforms to visuals to availability has changed. As there is constantly something new emerging in this industry, it is quite difficult to predict what will happen next. The gaming community's growing love and solidarity, however, have been the only things that have remained constant over the years.
