Technology:Boon or Bane?

Introduction:

Technology is a valuable servant but a hazardous master, according to the eminent Norwegian historian Christian Lous Lange. And thus, according on how we utilize technology, it may have a reciprocal effect on our lives. The society we live in, the things we use, and the way of life we lead are all products of technology, which has made our lives easier and more comfortable. Most of the things we depend on every day would not exist without technological breakthroughs, yet these same advancements have also brought about pollution, addiction to social media, fake news, frauds, etc.

Boons of Technology:

Undoubtedly, technology will continue to play a big and important role in our economy in the years to come. The progress of the world is intimately correlated with technological innovation. The industrial revolution in the humanities is a prime example of how technology has advanced. Moreover, technology has aided in the advancement of agriculture and medical research. The discipline of medical science has gained new knowledge through utilizing technology in the areas of therapies, data collection, symptom and illness research, cure research, and human help equipment. Also, almost 63% of hospitals employ at least six SaaS apps, such as software for managing medical practices and electronic health records (EHR). N.d. (Imaginovation) The use of artificial intelligence in agriculture is a topic of ongoing research. In the global agriculture business, artificial intelligence is expected to have a market value of roughly one billion dollars by 2020 and four billion dollars by 2026. We can greatly minimize the workload of farmers by implementing A.I. in agriculture. In a variety of industries, including artificial intelligence, e-commerce, virtual reality technology, etc., technology has played a significant role. E-commerce has made it possible for anyone to earn money. It has made purchasing easier, more affordable, and more flexible for both buyers and sellers. The number of e-commerce users is expected to rise to 4.193.9 million by 2025 (Statista, 2020). Big companies and brands are starting to use more artificial intelligence as it makes the work faster and more accurate, which saves a lot of time as well. Technology development has also given people a new way to make some money through freelancing and using social media sites such as Youtube, Twitch, Instagram, and many more. It has certainly made education easier and more accessible for everyone. The rise of technology has made learning simple and accessible for even a child from a rural area.

Banes of Technology :

Our economy has greatly benefited from technology, but it has also brought about issues. During the Industrial Revolution, several accidents caused by subpar equipment or the absence of a safety device resulted in a large number of fatalities. Also, because e-commerce is primarily conducted online, clients have limited access to inspect their purchases before they are delivered. Because of this, some clients become victims of fraud. Many people today are becoming addicted to their phones, which is another problem. Almost 89% of college students experience moderate to severe anxiety when hearing the name (ScienceDaily, 2020). Also, people are beginning to rely more on A.I. and virtual reality and starting to drift away from reality. Technology is being used more and more by people, which is problematic. These issues can be primarily separated into two categories, which are issues with both physical and mental health. Physical health issues caused by spending extended periods of time in front of a computer include blurred vision, tired eyes, back pain, headaches, and many more. Technology can also lead to issues with mental health. Some people who spend most of their time engaging with TVs and computers rather than real people soon start to drift away from reality and develop independent behaviors that lead to a dread of social interaction, which causes them to experience the mental illness known as anxiety. Many companies that we are very familiar with are collecting enormous amounts of data and information about us, sometimes without our knowledge. These include information about everything, even the sensitive and personal ones.

Conclusion :

We cannot avoid using technology, which is a necessary instrument that is integral to most aspects of our existence. Technology will always have an impact on our daily life. But even technology has advantages and disadvantages. Technology has a lot of benefits to give, which can only be good for us and our future generations if we can get past the drawbacks and repair the ones that still exist. There are many different ways that technology might advance and reshape itself to be ideal for us. Giving ethical issues top priority in the creation and use of technology is one method to guarantee that it advances in a way that is useful. Hence, the next generation of tech entrepreneurs and innovators should consider maintaining a balanced use of technology systems and traditional methods, as well as being conscious of making their technological creations ecologically benign so that we may all fully benefit from them.
